Landon Roulston provided the late comeback and Pacey Adduono finished the job as the Peterborough Petes picked up their second win of the preseason Thursday night.
Roulston scored his second goal of the game late in the third period to force overtime before Adduono delivered the deciding shootout goal in a 5-4 victory over the Sarnia Sting.
Peterborough opened the scoring just 3:22 into the game when Aiden Young converted on the power play. Sarnia answered less than two minutes later, but Yanis Lutz restored the Petes’ lead with a shorthanded goal at 14:05.
The Sting took control in the second period with goals from Sarvir Jaworski and Jonas Gulbrandson to move ahead 3-2.
Roulston responded with his first of the night on the power play at 13:45, but Sarnia’s Braydon Sisco scored late in the period to give the Sting a 4-3 advantage heading into the third.
That lead held until 16:52 of the final period, when Roulston scored his second of the night and third of the preseason to tie the game 4-4. Adam Levac and Carson Cameron picked up the assists.
After overtime failed to produce a winner, the teams went seven rounds in the shootout.
James McMurray, Roulston and Calum Hartnell scored before Adduono beat the Sarnia goaltender in the seventh round. Adrian Sgro was then stopped at the other end, securing the victory for Peterborough.
Roulston led the Petes with two goals, while Adduono and Cameron each recorded two assists.
Masen Johnston started in goal and stopped 12 of 14 shots. Luka Gelinas took over and made five saves in regulation before helping Peterborough through the shootout to earn his second preseason win.
The Petes continue their preseason schedule Saturday, September 5, when they travel to Arnprior to face the Ottawa 67’s.
Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Arnprior Arena.
