Two people were taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre following a serious collision involving a motorcycle and pickup truck on Northeys Bay Road.
Peterborough County OPP say emergency crews were called to the collision at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 30.
Police say a westbound pickup truck and an eastbound motorcycle collided after the motorcycle appeared to fail to negotiate a bend in the road and crossed into the westbound lane.
The two people inside the pickup truck reported no injuries, although police say the vehicle’s airbags deployed.
The motorcycle operator, a 23-year-old Ottawa man, suffered injuries and was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
A 22-year-old Peterborough woman who was a passenger on the motorcycle was initially transported to a local hospital. Due to the extent of her injuries, she was later transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
Northeys Bay Road remained closed for several hours while emergency crews responded and OPP collision reconstruction officers measured and documented the scene.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
