Peterborough Petes training camp is officially underway, with 41 players hitting the ice for the opening day of Rookie Camp.
Players and their families began Monday by hearing from general manager and vice-president of operations Michael Oke, captain Carson Cameron and head coach Rob Wilson.
The players then went through off-ice testing before taking part in the first of three Rookie Camp scrimmages at Healthy Planet Arena.
Team Maroon picked up the opening victory, defeating Team White 5-3.
Pacey Adduono and Theo Finch gave Maroon a strong start with first-period goals, while Tyson Cartier scored for Team White.
After a scoreless second period, the teams combined for five goals in the third.
Sebastian Dzieciol and Landon Roulston scored for White, while Kieran Raynor added a goal for Maroon. Mason Quinn scored twice in the final period, including an empty-net goal with 19 seconds remaining to secure the 5-3 victory.
Declan Ready finished the game with two assists for Team Maroon.
Rookie Camp continues Tuesday with two more scrimmages before wrapping up.
All scrimmages are being played on the Sign-A-Fied pad at Healthy Planet Arena and are open to the public.
Main Camp begins Wednesday, with the Petes expected to release the Main Camp rosters Wednesday morning.
