While Peterborough is blessed to have a number of active service clubs in its midst, the future of their invaluable contributions to the city is being challenged by, at best, stagnant numbers in terms of membership.
Doing the same, or more, with less is a common refrain heard from Rotarians, Lions, Kiwanians and the like as they struggle to maintain projects that have, for many years, answered identified needs across a broad spectrum.
The Kinsmen Club of Peterborough, says its past president Barry Craft, hasn’t been immune to declining membership. That has forced a continuous review of how it can best use its resources.
Craft notes that while current club membership is now in the high thirties, up considerably from a low of 23 post-pandemic, but well down from the more than 100 members the club boasted back in the day.
Craft says keeping things light and fun has been an approach that has served the club well in terms of attracting and recruiting new members.
Craft speaks to the ongoing challenge of running events with fewer members.
Craft adds he’s “pretty optimistic” that the Kinsmen Club will continue to do what it does, his optimism buoyed the recent influx of younger members.
