With Mayor Jeff Leal opting to not seek re-election, Peterborough will have a new mayor come the October 26th municipal election.
Last Friday, on the final day that council hopefuls could file their nomination papers, Rob Hailman did just that, bringing to seven the number of mayoral candidates – an increase over the five that ran for mayor in 2022, and the two mayoral hopefuls that sought election in 2018.
Also seeking election to the city’s top elected post are current Ashburnham Ward councillor Keith Riel, Neil Morton, Dr. Michael Eamon, Rebecca Schillemat, Brian Lumsden and Jacob Méthot.
As the calendar readies to turn the page to September, each mayoral candidate is ramping up their campaigning, and election lawn signs are sprouting up like weeds.
