What began as a one-off fundraiser is returning for a 49th year, again bringing the work of world-renown Canadian artists to Buckhorn.
Set for August 15th and 16th, the Buckhorn Festival of the Arts was initially staged in 1978 to help pay the mortgage for the Buckhorn Community Centre. The festival has since evolved into a must-attend event for art lovers and the simply curious, and has been recognized as a Top 100 Festival by Festivals and Events Ontario.
Festival director Meghan Arnott says the festival annually draws thousands of visitors.
Twenty artists new to the festival are being welcomed this year, bringing the number of involved artists to over one hundred. Arnott says besides the exhibiting and sale of their work, other related activities are taking place over the two days.
Arnott is quick to answer when asked what she enjoys most on festival weekend.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. August 15th, and 10 a.m. to 4p.m. August 16th. For the list of participating artists and the live music entertainment lineup, visit www.buckhorncommunitycentre.com.
