Peterborough City Council has approved a one-year extension of the policing services agreement between the Peterborough Police Service and the Township of Cavan Monaghan.
Council endorsed authorizing the extension of the existing contract from Jan. 1, 2027, to Dec. 31, 2027, after the township requested an additional year of service. The current agreement is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2026.
The Peterborough Police Services Board has also expressed its support for the extension.
Under the current agreement, Cavan Monaghan will pay approximately $1.7 million for policing services in 2026.
The contract provides policing services including crime prevention, law enforcement, emergency response, maintaining the public peace and assistance to victims of crime.
Annual fees also cover operational costs such as human resources, communications, fleet services, technology support, software licences and policing equipment where applicable.
