Six organizations in Peterborough-Kawartha are receiving more than $116,000 in provincial funding to help seniors stay active, connected and safe in their communities.
Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith announced Thursday that the organizations will receive a combined $116,196 through Ontario’s Seniors Community Grants program.
The City of Peterborough will receive nearly $25,000 to update its ‘Be Prepared’ program, providing seniors with information on fraud prevention, emergency preparedness, severe weather and intimate partner or family violence.
The Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton will receive more than $24,000 to support its Social and Night Out Program, creating opportunities for people living with dementia, caregivers and families to connect through shared meals and social activities.
Mapleridge Recreation Centre has been awarded more than $24,500 for a digital literacy program teaching seniors how to safely use technology, recognize scams and access online services.
Community Care Peterborough will receive $24,500 for the second phase of its Senior Connectors program, which uses trained volunteers to help older adults find local services and reduce social isolation.
The Douro-Dummer Township Public Library Board is receiving nearly $18,000 to expand its Learning Commons, while St. Joseph’s at Fleming will receive $2,100 to provide accessible community outings for long-term care residents.
“Seniors have built the vibrant, close-knit communities we enjoy today, and ensuring they have access to programs that keep them active, safe and connected is a top priority,” Smith said.
Ontario is investing up to $7 million this year to support more than 320 Seniors Community Grants across the province.
