Purolator has donated a retired delivery truck to Kawartha Lakes Food Source as part of a wider community support initiative that saw 14 trucks distributed to food banks across Canada through its “Purolator Tackle Hunger” program.
Building on recent truck donations, this year’s program aimed to identify organizations facing transportation challenges through a new application process developed in collaboration with Food Banks Canada.
The truck will assist Kawartha Lakes Food Source’s community hunger relief efforts by expanding its food collection, transportation and distribution capacity.
“Purolator Tackle Hunger is about using the strength of our network to address food insecurity,” said Jamie Yarrow, Purolator Tackle Hunger Champion and Retail Representative. “This truck donation gives Kawartha Lakes Food Source another tool to help keep food moving for the people and families who depend on them.”
Through its Purolator Tackle Hunger program, Purolator has helped deliver the food-equivalent of more than 27 million meals to Canadian food banks and is on track to deliver the equivalent of an additional 2.5 million meals in 2026. With the addition of the 14 retired delivery trucks, Purolator has donated 33 trucks to food banks across Canada, helping to further strengthen their efforts in reducing food insecurity in Canada.
“Thanks to Purolator’s support, we’ll be able to take the next step in strengthening our food recovery efforts. Converting this truck into a refrigerated vehicle will allow us to safely transport rescued perishable foods, increasing access to fresh produce, dairy and protein for our community,” said Ashley Anderson, Executive Director of Kawartha Lakes Food Source. “Once wrapped, the truck will also become a moving symbol of what community partnerships can accomplish, helping us raise awareness of food insecurity while recognizing the corporate sponsors who make this work possible.”
