Peterborough Regional Health Centre has announced a new medical education partnership with the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine.
The two organizations recently signed an affiliation agreement, making TMU the hospital’s newest academic partner. The collaboration will expand teaching opportunities for PRHC physicians while creating additional clinical placements, education and training opportunities for TMU medical students.
PRHC says the partnership complements its existing relationships with other learning institutions and supports the hospital’s long-term goals of strengthening medical education, research and physician recruitment.
Dr. Janet Hurst, PRHC’s Vice President and Chief Medical Executive, said the agreement marks an important milestone for the hospital.
“As a regional referral centre serving 600,000 patients across a broad urban and rural geography, this collaboration will strengthen PRHC’s existing learning programs at a time when building our teaching and research focus is a strategic priority,” Hurst said.
TMU School of Medicine Dean Dr. Teresa Chan said the partnership reflects the school’s commitment to training future physicians in the communities where patients receive care.
She said the affiliation will provide meaningful learning opportunities for students while strengthening connections between academic medicine and community healthcare.
PRHC says the partnership is expected to help prepare the next generation of physicians while supporting high-quality patient care across the region.
