Two Peterborough teenagers are facing robbery charges after an early morning incident at a convenience store.
Peterborough Police say officers were called to the store at Sherbrooke Street and Denure Drive at about 3:20 a.m. following reports that two masked males had robbed the business. Investigators allege one of the suspects brandished a knife while money was taken from the cash register.
Responding officers spotted two males matching the suspects’ descriptions fleeing on foot. Police pursued them and took both into custody at gunpoint as they attempted to jump a fence between homes on a nearby street.
During a search, officers say they recovered two knives, cash, alcohol and candy believed to have been stolen during the robbery.
No injuries were reported.
A 14-year-old Peterborough boy has been charged with robbery with theft, while a 16-year-old Peterborough boy is charged with robbery with a weapon.
Both youths were released on undertakings with conditions.
The identities of the accused are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
