Peterborough County says it is disappointed the City of Peterborough has publicly commented on ongoing land negotiations, arguing the move violates a confidentiality agreement between the parties.
In a statement released Thursday, the County said it has held only one meeting with the City so far, during which municipal officials presented their Lands Needs Study. The County says it, along with the affected township, has not yet had the opportunity to present its own information.
The negotiations are being facilitated by a provincially appointed facilitator and are subject to a confidential process agreed to by all parties.
As a result, the County says it will not provide additional details while discussions continue.
Warden Bonnie Clark said she was disappointed by Mayor Jeff Leal’s decision to issue a public statement.
“We take agreements and confidentiality as paramount,” Clark said. “To my knowledge, there has been no proposal put forward by the City, and this release seeks to undermine the agreed-upon collaborative process.”
The County says it intends to continue participating in the negotiations under the terms of the confidentiality agreement.
