The Ontario government has expanded free day-use access to all provincial parks for veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces who live in Ontario.
Beginning immediately, eligible veterans and active service members can visit any of Ontario’s more than 340 provincial parks free of charge seven days a week, including weekends and statutory holidays. The change expands a program that previously offered free weekday access.
Environment, Conservation and Parks Minister Todd McCarthy said the move recognizes the service and sacrifices of military members.
“We are immensely grateful for the courage and sacrifices made by the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to defending our country and protecting our values of freedom and democracy,” McCarthy said. “Expanding access to our incredible provincial parks is a token of appreciation for their service and commitment.”
Eligible visitors can reserve day-use permits through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service or present valid Canadian Armed Forces identification, such as a Veteran’s Service Card or Canadian Forces Identification Card, along with proof of Ontario residency upon arrival. Free admission also extends to friends and family travelling in the same vehicle.
The province says more than 228,000 weekday visits have been made by veterans, active military members and their guests since the program launched in 2019.
The government says spending time outdoors supports physical and mental well-being while helping strengthen tourism and encouraging more people to enjoy Ontario’s natural spaces.
