Parks Canada invites paddlers to Lock & Paddle 2026 on Saturday, July 18 at the Peterborough Lift Lock.
Anytime from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Peterborough Lift Lock, canoeists and kayakers will come together for a lockage experience on the world’s tallest hydraulic lift lock.
Participants will be able to enjoy views of the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site from 65 feet up. This free, family-friendly event is open to all ages and experience levels; whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a beginner.
Those with the Canada Strong Pass can enjoy free lockage from now until September 7.
Participants should note that stand-up paddleboards and inflatable vessels are not permitted, and pets will not be allowed on any vessels for safety reasons. Those who do not have their own canoe or kayak can take advantage of local rental options.
All paddlers must carry the required safety equipment, including a properly worn personal flotation device (PFD), a sound signalling device, a heaving line, a bailer and a watertight flashlight.
Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead by using nearby public parking lots or arranging for drop-offs, as parking is limited.
The event will take place rain or shine, and no registration is required to participate.
Full event information, including maps, parking, rental companies and safety guidelines can be found on the event website.
