Trent University is expanding its graduate offerings with a new Master of Science in Computer Science program designed to prepare students for careers in Canada’s growing digital economy.
The two-year program will welcome its first cohort in September 2026 and provide advanced training in areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, software engineering and computational modelling.
University officials say the new degree responds to increasing demand for highly skilled technology professionals across Canada.
“The launch of Trent’s computer science master’s program responds to a clear and growing need for highly qualified professionals across Canada,” said Dr. Craig Brunetti, dean of Trent’s School of Graduate Studies. “This program directly supports regional and national priorities for job growth in the digital economy.”
The master’s program builds on Trent’s existing undergraduate Computer Science and Data Analytics programs while expanding opportunities for advanced research.
Students will complete a faculty-supervised thesis and explore emerging topics such as intelligent systems, natural language processing, database systems, software testing, algorithms, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence applications in software engineering.
“Research in computer science has defined and will continue to define how we work, play and communicate,” said Dr. Brian Patrick, chair of Trent’s Department of Computer Science.
The program will be delivered in person at Trent’s Peterborough campus and include opportunities for students to collaborate with industry partners on research projects while presenting their findings at professional conferences.
University officials say the combination of applied research, hands-on learning and industry collaboration will help graduates meet the evolving needs of Canada’s technology sector.
