There’s rarely a dull moment in Selwyn, making the township a terrific summer season destination for day trippers looking for a unique experience.
Known as Smith-Ennismore Township before the name Selwyn was adopted in January 2013, the township is two-thirds rural with numerous farms intermixed with rolling hills and lakes. While Lakefield, Bridgenorth and Ennismore comprise much of the township’s urban population, the vistas of the rural landscape are a treat to explore in their own right.
Home to McLean Berry Farm, Central Smith Creamery, Craftworks, Chemong Lodge, ECCO Art Gallery and ever-popular Selwyn Public Beach on Chemong Lake, Selwyn also draws thousands of summer visitors anxious to enjoy the Lakefield Literary Festival and the Lakefield Jazz, Art and Craft Festival.
Ryley Gutoskie, Tourism and Communications Coordinator with The Kawarthas Tourism, says while more and more people are planning their outings around Selwyn festivals and events, they discover there’s so much more to explore and make return visits.
Gutoskie says Selwyn visitors aren’t limited to those coming to the township from points distant.
Gutoskie says communities nestled along the historic Trent-Severn Waterway are another Selwyn treat that visitors shouldn’t ignore.
