Visitors to the Riverview Park and Zoo can once again climb aboard one of Peterborough’s most popular attractions, as the Miniature Train has officially reopened for the season.
The train’s opening was delayed this year while maintenance crews completed work on the railway tracks. Those repairs have now been finished, allowing the attraction to resume operations.
The City of Peterborough says the Miniature Train will operate daily, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the Labour Day long weekend in September.
A longtime favourite among families visiting the zoo, the attraction features a replica 1860 steam locomotive that takes passengers on a scenic journey around the grounds.
Located at the south end of the Riverview Park and Zoo beneath the iconic Sabre jet, the train travels along more than two kilometres of track. Each ride lasts approximately 10 minutes, giving visitors a unique perspective of the park.
The Riverview Park and Zoo is one of Peterborough’s most visited attractions, offering free admission year-round and drawing thousands of visitors each season. The return of the Miniature Train marks another sign that the zoo’s busy summer season is underway.
