A Peterborough pickleball tournament held annually to honour the memory of one of the game’s biggest boosters will be held in July at Bonnerworth Work.
The third annual Steve Mayhew Memorial Tournament, set for July 25th and 26th, will feature multiple divisions, including beginner, intermediate and advanced, with an emphasis on accommodating those new to the game. The entry fee is $55 with online registration available at www.peterboroughpickleball.ca.
Peterborough Pickleball Association president Danielle French says the tournament “truly captures Steve’s love for the game and his commitment to bringing people together.” New to pickleball the year that Mayhew died, she soon realized the impact he had.
French says the association is really encouraging beginners to come out and discover the game, and the community that has developed around it.
French says the tournament also provides the opportunity to let people know more about the association itself, and the game its members love.
Representing the Mayhew family at the tournament will be Steve’s son Jarod, an association member and a fierce advocate of the game like his father.
