A Douro-Dummer Township man is facing impaired driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police say he was found operating a vehicle more than four times over the legal alcohol limit following a stop on Highway 7.
Peterborough County OPP say the incident happened Wednesday, June 24, just before midnight, when an officer patrolling a construction zone was alerted by a worker that a vehicle had failed to stop for a flagman.
Police say the officer located the vehicle shortly afterward and observed it was also operating without rear lights. A traffic stop was initiated.
According to police, the officer determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and placed the individual under arrest for operation while impaired. The driver was transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing, where results indicated a blood alcohol concentration more than four times the legal limit.
As a result, a 31-year-old of Douro-Dummer Township has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on August 4. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
