The City of Peterborough has temporarily closed the Beavermead boat launch as work begins on a series of planned improvements aimed at enhancing access to Little Lake.
City officials say the closure is necessary to allow construction crews to complete upgrades identified through the municipality’s Boat Launch Strategy, which was developed as part of the broader Parks and Outdoor Recreation Facilities Study.
The Beavermead launch, located within Beavermead Park, is used primarily by paddlers, including canoeists, kayakers and paddleboarders.
Planned improvements include the removal of existing paver stones, regrading of the launch area and the installation of a gravel surface designed to improve usability and site conditions.
The city says the upgrades are intended to address issues identified during the review of local boating and paddling infrastructure and to support continued recreational use of the waterfront.
The launch will remain closed throughout the construction period, with reopening currently expected in the spring of 2027.
During the closure, residents and visitors looking to access Little Lake by watercraft are being directed to the Rogers Cove boat launch at 160 Mark St., which remains open.
The City of Peterborough has not released a construction timeline beyond the anticipated reopening date but says the temporary closure is necessary to complete the improvements safely and efficiently.
The Beavermead project is one of several waterfront and recreation infrastructure initiatives identified through the city’s long-term planning process for parks and outdoor recreation facilities.
