A 43-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after police say he was found inside a secured business compound in the city’s east end.
Peterborough Police Service officers were called to a business in the Ashburnham Drive and Lansdowne Street area at about 4 a.m. on June 13 after reports that two people had entered an enclosed compound.
Police said officers were unable to access the property immediately and deployed the service’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), commonly known as a drone, to assist in the search.
Using the aerial technology, officers located one suspect as he exited the compound from the opposite side and attempted to leave the area along a nearby path. Officers intercepted the man and took him into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of break-in instruments.
The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 1.
Police have not released further details about the second individual reportedly seen entering the compound or whether anything was taken from the property.
