The community continues to rally around the family of a young player who died in a motor vehicle collision following a weekend tournament, with a fundraising campaign now raising more than $30,000.
The fundraiser was launched in support of the family of Eric Hainer, a U22 player with the Kawartha Fury lacrosse organization, who was killed while travelling home after competing in the team’s inaugural Medicine Cup tournament.
Organized by family friend Lesley Kirton, the campaign aims to help ease financial pressures for Hainer’s parents, Janice Currie and Mike Hainer, as they navigate the devastating loss of their son.
The response from the community has been overwhelming, with donations continuing to pour in from friends, teammates, fellow athletes and supporters from across the region.
In a statement following Hainer’s death, the Kawartha Fury described him as a valued teammate whose contributions to the club will never be forgotten.
Tributes have continued to be shared throughout the lacrosse community, with many remembering Hainer for his passion for the game, respect for its traditions and commitment to his teammates.
The fundraiser remains open. If you wish to donate, click here.
