One of Canada’s most acclaimed and enduring singer-songwriters is set to make his Peterborough Musicfest debut this summer.
Organizers announced Friday that Matthew Good and his band will headline the free concert series on July 22, taking the Fred Anderson Stage at Del Crary Park for the first time.
For more than 30 years, Good has been a prominent figure in Canadian music, first as frontman of the Matthew Good Band and later as a solo artist. Known for blending alternative rock melodies with social commentary and introspective songwriting, Good has built a catalogue that includes hits such as “Hello Timebomb,” “Load Me Up,” “Apparitions,” “Everything Is Automatic” and “Indestructible.”
The Matthew Good Band became one of Canada’s defining alternative rock acts in the late 1990s, earning JUNO Awards for Best Group and Best Rock Album for Beautiful Midnight. Following the band’s breakup in 2002, Good launched a successful solo career, releasing critically acclaimed albums including Avalanche and Vancouver while earning a total of 21 JUNO Award nominations.
Throughout his career, Good has been recognized for addressing political, social and mental health issues through his music, combining personal reflection with commentary on broader societal issues.
Before the main-stage performance, audiences can catch Indigenous artist Graeme Jonez on the side stage at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Future Sound Series presented by Cogeco.
Organizers say they expect a large turnout for Good’s first appearance at the festival and are encouraging attendees to arrive early to secure a spot.
Admission to all Peterborough Musicfest concerts remains free through the support of sponsors, donors, government funders and community partners.
