Two people have been charged after a reported armed robbery in Peterborough County that left a victim stranded on the side of a rural road, Ontario Provincial Police say.
Peterborough County OPP received a call around 9 p.m. on May 27 from an individual who reported being robbed after accepting a ride arranged by an acquaintance.
Police say the victim was expecting transportation back to their residence in Lennox and Addington County when a vehicle carrying three unknown people arrived. During the trip through Peterborough County, the vehicle reportedly pulled over near Lindsay Road and Fife’s Bay Road.
Investigators allege the driver and one passenger brandished weapons and ordered the victim to leave the vehicle and abandon their belongings before driving away.
The Peterborough County OPP Major Crime Unit took over the investigation and later identified two of the three suspects. Police also identified the vehicle involved as an older-model silver sport utility vehicle.
A youth was arrested on May 28 and charged with robbery with violence. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be identified.
On June 2, police arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with robbery with violence, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Police have not released information about the third suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.
