A week of sweet treats has delivered a major boost for health care and food security initiatives in Kawartha Lakes.
The Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation and Kawartha Lakes Food Source have each received more than $23,000 following the success of this year’s Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign in Lindsay.
The campaign, which ran from April 27 to May 3, raised a total of $46,472.66 through the sale of Smile Cookies at six Tim Hortons locations owned by Nick and Meaghan Chapman. The proceeds were split equally between the two local charities, with each organization receiving a cheque for $23,236.33.
Representatives from both organizations gathered at the Mount Hope Street Tim Hortons in Lindsay to celebrate the campaign’s success and thank community members for their support.
Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation CEO Erin Coons said the campaign demonstrated the impact local businesses and residents can have when they rally behind important community causes.
Coons also praised volunteers from both organizations who helped decorate cookies and promote the fundraising effort throughout the week.
Kawartha Lakes Food Source Executive Director Ashley Anderson said the campaign highlighted the power of collaboration between local businesses, volunteers and community members.
She noted the fundraiser helped support two critical priorities in the community — access to health care and food security.
The annual Smile Cookie campaign sees proceeds from specially decorated cookies directed to local charities selected by participating Tim Hortons restaurant owners.
This year’s campaign in Lindsay will help fund patient care advancements through the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation while also supporting food security programs delivered by Kawartha Lakes Food Source.
