Motorists in Peterborough should prepare for temporary traffic disruptions as Parks Canada carries out maintenance work near the Lift Lock Tunnel on Hunter Street East.
The tunnel will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9:30 a.m. to noon on June 1 while crews perform work on the embankment immediately east of the tunnel.
City officials say a signed detour route will be in place during the closure to help redirect traffic around the work zone.
Traffic control personnel will also be stationed on-site to assist with the movement of emergency vehicles, transit buses and heavy trucks requiring access through the area.
Drivers are being advised to expect delays and plan their travel accordingly while the maintenance work is underway.
The City of Peterborough and Parks Canada say the work is necessary to maintain infrastructure in the area and are thanking residents for their patience and cooperation during the temporary closure.
The tunnel is expected to reopen to regular traffic shortly after noon once the maintenance work has been completed.
