Students from across the PVNC Catholic District School Board put their math skills to the test during the board’s annual Math Olympics competition.
The event, hosted by the PVNC Catholic Math Team, transformed the Catholic Education Centre and Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School into a hub of problem solving, strategy and teamwork.
Organizers say the competition was designed to highlight critical thinking and collaboration while making mathematics engaging and fun for students from Grades 3 through 8.
Throughout the day, participants tackled a series of challenges focused on multiplication, probability, logic and estimation.
Events included the Skills Challenge, which tested critical thinking abilities through puzzles and problem-solving activities, along with probability and strategy games requiring students to calculate risks in real time.
Students also competed in the “Number Hive” multiplication challenge and a spatial reasoning competition involving an estimation jar activity.
In the Grade 3 and 4 division, St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary School captured first place, followed by St. Paul Catholic Elementary School and St. Mary Catholic Elementary School.
The Grade 5 and 6 division was won by St. Anthony Catholic Elementary School, with St. Dominic Catholic Elementary School finishing second and St. Anne Catholic Elementary School placing third.
In the Grade 7 and 8 category, St. Anne Catholic Elementary School earned first place honours, followed by St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School and St. Martin Catholic Elementary School.
Organizers congratulated all participating students, describing the event as a celebration of teamwork, perseverance and academic achievement.
