For many local residents, grief following the death of a beloved pet has proven not unlike that associated with the loss of a family member or close friend.
With that in mind, Lakefield Cemetery’s ‘Companions Rest’ section offers several options as a resting place for domesticated pets, including casket burials or cremated remains interment. In addition, cremated remains within a burial plot or niche is also offered for those wanting to be buried alongside their deceased pet.
Cemetery general manager Meghan Henning says pet burial is becoming an increasingly popular option as a means of paying fuller respect to a deceased pet.
Henning notes Lakefield Cemetery, at this time, offers only the burial of cremated pet remains, but does not offer cremation services. She adds full body pet burials may be offered in the future.
