Ontario Provincial Police say a cyclist was seriously injured after being run off the road in Douro-Dummer Township, prompting an ongoing investigation and a public appeal for information.
Peterborough County OPP were called shortly after 7:30 p.m. on April 17, to County Road 32 near County Road 33 after EMS reported a cyclist had been struck and injured.
Police say the male cyclist suffered significant injuries, including extensive abrasions, lacerations and bleeding from the mouth. He was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Toronto trauma centre due to the severity of his condition.
According to the investigation, the cyclist reported encountering a group of individuals operating electric motorcycles, or e-bikes, in a dangerous manner along a trail area. Police say an exchange occurred between the cyclist and one rider, after which the rider allegedly kicked the victim, causing him to be knocked off his bicycle.
Investigators say the suspect vehicle is described as a black electric motorcycle without pedals.
Police say they are actively seeking information to identify those involved and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has video footage to come forward.
