The Peterborough Community Health Centre (PCHC) has received a $30,000 donation aimed at strengthening day-to-day supports for clients through new infrastructure and expanded community programming.
The contribution from MCI Constructors Inc., formerly Mortlock Construction Inc., has funded the purchase and installation of a washer and dryer as well as the full outfitting of a new community kitchen at the centre.
Officials say the additions are already helping improve care for clients, particularly those experiencing homelessness or housing instability, by providing access to essential hygiene and nutrition supports on-site.
Access to laundry facilities allows the centre to directly assist clients with clean clothing and basic laundry needs, while reducing barriers to care.
The new kitchen space will be used for nutrition education, food literacy programming and partnerships focused on food security. It is also expected to support future initiatives such as daily meal programs, food cupboards and culturally relevant nutrition services.
Craig and Ashley Mortlock, co-owners of MCI Constructors Inc., said the donation reflects their commitment to the community.
“This gift is about supporting the people and services that make our community stronger,” they said in a statement. “The PCHC provides essential care to so many individuals and families, and we wanted our contribution to reflect our values.”
The centre said while core services are funded through Ontario Health, community donations help expand supports that address broader social determinants of health.
“We’re deeply grateful to MCI Constructors,” said Ashley Safar, executive director of the Peterborough Community Health Centre. “Their support helps us extend patient care beyond the exam room into food, wellness and community connection.”
The PCHC says it continues to seek donations for Indigenous wellness initiatives, expanded 2SLGBTQIA+ programming and emergency supports such as transportation, food and identification replacement.
