Trent University has appointed Glenn Craney as vice-president and head of Trent University Durham GTA, effective July 1.
The university says Craney brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across Ontario’s postsecondary education sector, government and institutional planning.
Trent president and vice-chancellor Cathy Bruce said Craney’s experience in planning, community engagement and higher education leadership will help support the continued growth of the Durham campus and strengthen its regional partnerships.
Craney most recently served as vice-president of Planning and Strategy at Humber Polytechnic, where he oversaw institutional planning, enrolment management and facilities development across multiple campuses.
Before that, he was deputy provost and chief strategy officer at Toronto Metropolitan University, helping lead the institution’s Brampton expansion strategy and development of its international education initiatives.
Earlier in his career, Craney worked as an assistant deputy minister with Ontario’s Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development and later became the founding executive director of the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer.
Craney said he is honoured to join Trent at a significant time for the Durham campus, calling the university’s approach to community and student experience “truly distinctive.”
The appointment follows a comprehensive search process and comes as the Durham campus continues expanding academic programming and community partnerships across the eastern Greater Toronto Area.
The university also thanked Scott Henderson for his leadership during his interim role as vice-president and head of Trent Durham since 2024.
