Peterborough’s unemployment rate inched up in April.
According to the latest information released by Statistics Canada on Friday, Peterborough had an unemployment rate of 5.7 last month compared to 5.4 in March.
Nationally, the rate climbed to 6.9 per cent, the highest level in six months. The Canadian economy also lost 18,000 jobs.
The latest figures point to continued weakness in the labour market as businesses contend with ongoing trade uncertainty and the impact of U.S. tariffs.
The April report marks the third month in four this year where overall employment declined.
