School bus drivers across the region are once again teaming up to help stock local food banks.
The annual Burst the Bus food drive in support of Kawartha Food Share takes place Saturday, May 9, from 11 am to 2 pm at several grocery store locations across the area.
Drivers with STC Bus Lines will be collecting non-perishable food items, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, diapers and monetary donations at:
- Metro
- Greg’s No Frills
- FreshCo Lansdowne
- Norwood Foodland
- Omemee Foodland
Organizers say the campaign was created after drivers witnessed firsthand how many children arrive at school without enough food for lunches or snacks.
Among the most-needed items are peanut butter, canned tuna, canned fruit, cereal, canned vegetables, soup, pasta and sauce, individually wrapped school snacks, and gluten-free products.
Donations collected in Norwood will go directly to the Norwood Food Bank, while donations gathered in Omemee will support the Omemee Food Bank.
Cash donations are also being accepted. Organizers say every dollar donated allows Kawartha Food Share to purchase up to three dollars worth of food.
