Peterborough entrepreneur and community builder Neil Morton filed his nomination papers Monday morning (May 4th), making official his bid to be elected the city’s mayor this coming October.
Joined by a large throng of supporters, Morton entered the race which also sees Keith Riel, Dr. Michael Eamon and Rebecca Schillemat – all of whom filed Friday (May 1st) seeking the city’s top elected position.
Speaking after filing, Morton made clear his motivation for seeking election, terming it a “natural progression” in terms of where he is at in this stage of his life.
Asked what the pillars of his platform are at this early stage, Morton listed four.
Asked if Monday being May 4th – a day Star Wars fans equate with the May The 4th Be With You – had any bearing on his decision to file that day, Morton laughed and admitted that was “part of my reason.”
The municipal election will be held October 26th. Those looking to run for mayor and any one of 10 council seats have until August 21st to file nomination papers.
