It comes as no surprise, but longtime Peterborough councillor Keith Riel has jumped into the 2026 municipal election fray early.
Now in his fourth term representing Ashburnham Ward, Riel first announced his plans to run back in November but formally submitted his paperwork on Friday.
Riel adds he believes it’s time to run for the top spot for a number of reasons including a different approach to attracting jobs.
Riel is currently co-chair of the municipal operations and community services’ homelessness portfolios and those are passionate priorities for him.
Peterborough voters will head to the polls October 26, 2026 to elect a new council.
