The early bird may get the worm but does he or she get to serve as Peterborough’s next mayor?
On Friday, May 1st at City Hall – Nomination Day for candidates looking to secure a council seat this October – Dr. Michael Eamon was the first to file his nomination papers. Joined by a sizable group of supporters, the longtime Traill College principal, professor and historian made his initial foray into municipal politics official, signing on to contest for Peterborough’s top elected position.
Dr. Eamon spoke to the media immediately afterwards and said he’s anxious to learn to what people “really need and want out of their city.”
Dr. Eamon assures his style of leadership will be rooted in collaboration where all concerned have a voice at the table.
Dr. Eamon refutes the notion that being a first-time candidate equates to a lack of experience that will prove a handicap if and when he’s elected.
The municipal election will be held October 26th. Those looking to run for mayor and any of 10 council seats have until August 21 to file nomination papers.
