STUFF TO DO
Friday: Nemoralis Book Making Workshop — Presented by Artspace Peterborough with bookbinder Stuart Hill from 12:30–3 pm at the Peterborough Public Library. Participants will learn to create a Nemoralis-style book inspired by medieval record-keeping traditions, featuring a folded paper cover and hand-sewn binding techniques. The workshop is by donation, with a $50 suggested contribution.
Friday: Memory Crimes – opening reception — Artspace Peterborough hosts the opening reception for Edward Fu-Chen Juan’s exhibition from 6–9 pm. The exhibition runs May 1 to June 27 and explores themes of Taiwanese family history, diaspora, truth, and reconciliation, including reflections on the 1947 February 28 massacre and Taiwan’s White Terror period.
Friday: First Friday Peterborough Art Crawl — A self-guided, family-friendly art crawl takes place from 6–11 pm across downtown Peterborough. The monthly event features participating galleries, studios, shops, and cafés showcasing local art, with individual venues operating on varying hours. Admission is free.
Friday and Saturday: 10th Anniversary Book + Zine Fest — Presented by Artspace Peterborough, the festival runs Friday, May 1 (5–9 pm) and Saturday, May 2 (12–4 pm) at the Peterborough Public Library. The admission-by-donation event ($5–$10 suggested) features more than 25 local and regional creators, including comic artists, zine makers, printmakers, and children’s authors, with all sales going directly to the artists. Activities take place in the Friends of the Library Room and include additional workshops led by participating artists.
Saturday: Spring into Learning 2026: Rethink Dis-Ability — A free full-day learning event takes place from 9 am to 3 pm at Five Counties Children’s Centre, 872 Dutton Rd., Peterborough. The event features keynote speaker Alec Denys along with workshops and talks from community leaders and advocates, focusing on disability awareness, accessibility, caregiving, and challenging perceptions around disability. Participants can also access resources and take part in networking and discussion sessions. Lunch is included.
Saturday and Sunday: Shipyard Kitchen Party – Rusticators House Concert Series — A live music house concert runs Saturday and Sunday. The performances feature The Shipyard Kitchen Party along with guest musicians, blending traditional East Coast-inspired music with storytelling, humour, and Canadian folk influences. Showtimes are Saturday at 3 pm and 7:30 pm, as well as a Sunday 1pm matinee
