The spotlight is about to turn to women in business across the region as the Peterborough + Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce prepares to hand out its 2026 Luminary Awards next Thursday.
The annual event celebrates women whose leadership, innovation and generosity are shaping both the local economy and community impact. Organizers say this year builds on the success of the inaugural ceremony, with recognition across entrepreneurship, employment, community service and long-term influence.
New categories this year include Building Belonging, which honours inclusive leadership, and Community Catalyst, recognizing women driving meaningful progress in the region.
Committee Chair Susan Dunkley says the awards were created to highlight women who are making a difference in the local business landscape.
She said the idea behind the program is to ensure that work does not go unnoticed.
This year’s nominees are spread across eight categories, including Legacy, Trailblazer, Barrier Buster, Emerging Entrepreneur, One to Watch, Building Belonging and Community Catalyst. Organizers say recipients are selected based on their impact in business, non-profits and community initiatives, as well as their ability to create opportunity and inspire others.
The ceremony takes place Thursday, May 7th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Great Hall at Trent University.
Dunkley says the goal is to make sure the contributions of women in business are seen and recognized.
The Chamber is encouraging the community to come out and support the nominees, who represent a wide range of industries and leadership roles across the region.
