The Peterborough Petes have made a major move between the pipes, acquiring Vancouver Canucks prospect and Memorial Cup champion Aleksei Medvedev from the London Knights.
Petes general manager and vice-president of operations Michael Oke announced the trade, which sends three future draft picks to London in exchange for the highly regarded goaltender.
Peterborough will give up a second-round pick in 2028, Sault Ste. Marie’s third-round pick in 2027 and a fifth-round selection in 2030.
Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Medvedev arrives in Peterborough with an impressive résumé that includes an OHL championship, a Memorial Cup title and several individual honours.
The Knights selected him in the second round, 38th overall, of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection from the Vaughan Kings organization.
Following a standout rookie campaign, Medvedev was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round, 47th overall, of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
He signed a three-year entry-level contract with Vancouver on July 10, 2025.
During his rookie season, Medvedev captured the F.W. Dinty Moore Trophy for the lowest goals-against average among rookie goaltenders and shared in the Dave Pinkney Trophy for the lowest team goals-against average.
He was also named to the OHL’s first all-rookie team while helping London capture both the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the Memorial Cup.
Oke says the organization is thrilled to add a goaltender with Medvedev’s experience and accomplishments.
“We’re very excited to welcome Aleksei to the Peterborough Petes,” said Oke.
“Aleksei is one of the most experienced goaltenders in our league, having already signed his ELC with the Vancouver Canucks. He also brings valuable championship experience, having won both the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the Memorial Cup, as well as a number of individual accolades.”
Oke added that the Petes are looking forward to supporting Medvedev’s continued development and seeing the impact he can make both on and off the ice.
Across 78 games with the Knights over three seasons, Medvedev has recorded 41 wins, a 3.08 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
