A 46-year-old Peterborough man is facing a stunt driving charge after police say he was caught travelling nearly twice the posted speed limit on Water Street.
According to the Peterborough Police Service, officers with the Traffic Unit were conducting enforcement near Carnegie Avenue at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, when they recorded a vehicle travelling 98 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
The driver was stopped and issued a ticket for stunt driving.
As a result, the man received an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension, while his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
The vehicle was travelling 48 km/h over the posted speed limit.
The latest incident adds to the number of stunt driving offences recorded by Peterborough Police this year.
According to statistics released by the service, officers have laid 40 stunt driving charges between January 1 and November 3, 2026.
The figures reflect charges laid during the first 10 months of the year and the beginning of November.
Police continue to conduct traffic enforcement throughout the community, including on major roads and in areas where speeding can put other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians at risk.
The latest charge serves as a reminder that drivers caught stunt driving can face immediate roadside penalties, including licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments.
