A Havelock woman is planning a dream vacation and hoping to help her daughter buy a home after winning $2 million in the Ontario 49 lottery.
But before making any big plans, Christine W. had to figure out how to keep the biggest secret of her life.
According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Christine matched all six winning numbers in the September 16, Ontario 49 draw, turning a $1 lottery ticket into a $2-million payday.
The Peterborough County resident discovered her good fortune during an ordinary morning at home while checking her ticket using the OLG app.
“I checked my ticket on the OLG app and saw all those zeros,” Christine recalled.
Despite the life-changing discovery, Christine didn’t immediately celebrate with family or friends.
Instead, she went to work and carried on with her day, keeping the news entirely to herself.
In fact, she managed to keep the $2-million win a secret for five days before finally telling her daughter.
“It was the biggest secret of my life,” she said.
With the news now out in the open, Christine has started thinking about how to enjoy her winnings.
Among her plans is a trip to Bora Bora, the tropical island destination in French Polynesia known for its beaches and turquoise waters.
She’s also hoping to use part of the money to help her daughter purchase a home.
The winning ticket was purchased at East End Market on Ottawa Street East in Havelock.
