Experiencing life as someone with vision loss is the gist of a unique fundraiser being held at Peterborough’s two Boston Pizza locations.
Organized by the Peterborough chapter of the Canadian Council of the Blind, Dining in the Dark will be held this Wednesday (November 4), 5 to 8 p.m., at the restaurant’s Rye Street location, and again on November 9, 5 to 8 p.m., at Boston Pizza’s Chemong Road location. At each event, guests will be given the option of enjoying their meal while wearing a blindfold.
Council volunteer Yvonne Garvey says the aim is to give people “a little idea of what it’s like to live with vision loss.”
Noting anyone can experience vision loss at any age, Garvey says the fundraiser will see council volunteers provide eye health advice and tips.
Citing her own experience, Garvey notes how instrumental the support of the Canadian Council of the Blind has been in her adjusting to a new reality.
Reservations for either Dining in the Dark session can be made at www.ccbpeterborough.com. Boston Pizza is providing a portion of in-restaurant or takeout meals sales to the council.
