Campbellford Memorial Hospital is celebrating national recognition after being named one of Canada’s highest-rated hospitals in a new analysis of online reviews.
The hospital ranked fourth out of 177 Canadian hospitals and second in Ontario in a study conducted by digital marketing firm SEO Backlinks.
The analysis examined more than 135,000 Google reviews, focusing on ratings submitted by patients, families and visitors.
Campbellford Memorial Hospital received an average rating of 3.63 out of five stars, based on 219 reviews.
Hospital President and CEO Jeff Hohenkerk says the recognition is particularly meaningful because it reflects feedback from the people receiving care.
“This is wonderful recognition for our entire team, and what makes it particularly meaningful is that it comes directly from the people we serve,” said Hohenkerk. “We talk a lot about the importance of providing compassionate, patient-centred care, but ultimately, it’s our patients and families who can tell us how we’re doing.”
Unlike traditional hospital rankings that examine clinical outcomes, financial performance and other healthcare indicators, this analysis focused specifically on public Google ratings.
The report acknowledges that online reviews are not a scientific measure of healthcare quality or clinical performance. However, the hospital says they can provide insight into patient experiences, including communication, compassion and interactions with healthcare workers.
Hohenkerk says even small gestures can make a significant difference to patients and their families.
“A kind word, a reassuring conversation, taking the time to listen, or simply treating someone with dignity and respect can have a lasting impact,” he said.
The recognition comes as Campbellford Memorial Hospital continues planning for a new hospital and integrated Campus of Care, intended to strengthen access to healthcare services in the region.
Hohenkerk credited the hospital’s staff, physicians and volunteers for helping shape the experiences reflected in the reviews. He also thanked patients and families who took the time to share their feedback.
