United Way Peterborough & District and Peterborough Action for Tiny Homes (PATH) have launched their annual ‘Coats for Community… and More!’ campaign to help ensure local individuals and families have access to warm clothes and other essential winter items.
The initiative encourages residents to donate new and gently used winter clothing and cold-weather essentials for those in need. Donations can be dropped off at PATH, located at 385 Lansdowne Street East, during the Winter Gear Collection event on November 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Accepted items include insulated winter coats, snow pants and boots, hats, gloves, mittens, warm layers, hand warmers, sleeping bags and blankets. Used items must be in good condition, with working zippers and no stains or tears.
All sizes are accepted, with PATH Program Coordinator Bev Assinck highlighting a particular need for men’s clothing and footwear.
The campaign began in 1986 as Coats for Kids and has expanded beyond coats to include a wider range of winter necessities. For the past three years, United Way Peterborough & District has partnered with PATH to deliver the program.
Last winter, more than 2,200 coats and hundreds of other winter essentials were distributed through the initiative.
Donations can be delivered to PATH on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. throughout the winter until April.
