The Trent Excalibur men’s soccer team is preparing to make program history Wednesday night when it hosts its first-ever Ontario University Athletics playoff game.
Trent will welcome the University of Toronto Varsity Blues to Justin Chiu Stadium on October 21, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
The historic home playoff appearance follows a record-setting regular season for the Excalibur, who finished with seven wins and five losses.
Trent secured third place in the OUA East Division, the program’s highest-ever seeding, while establishing new team records with seven victories and 21 points.
Both marks surpassed records set just one year ago, when the Excalibur recorded six wins and 19 points.
The playoff appearance also marks the first time Trent’s men’s soccer program has qualified for the postseason in consecutive years.
Last season, the Excalibur were eliminated in the opening round following a 3-1 loss to the nationally ranked Carleton Ravens.
Wednesday’s opponent, the University of Toronto, enters the matchup as the sixth seed in the East Division. The Varsity Blues finished their regular season with five wins, three losses and four draws. Toronto also won both meetings against Trent during the regular season, giving the Excalibur an opportunity to reverse those results with their season on the line.
Admission is $15 at the gate, while Trent students with valid student identification will be admitted free. Children 12 and under will also receive free admission when accompanied by an adult.
