The Trent Excalibur women’s lacrosse team has capped off a perfect season with another provincial championship.
Playing in front of approximately 500 fans at Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough, Trent defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 16-3 on Sunday afternoon to capture its second consecutive Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women’s lacrosse title.
The Excalibur entered the championship tournament as the top seed after finishing the regular season undefeated at 8-0.
Three more victories during the playoffs completed an 11-0 campaign and extended the team’s overall winning streak to 14 games.
The victory was particularly meaningful for Trent, which captured last year’s Patterson Cup on the road in Waterloo.
“To have everyone there supporting us – our families, alumni and athletics department – and to see everyone come together to celebrate what we’ve worked so hard to achieve, it’s an unreal feeling,” said head coach Jocelyne Lemay.
Trent controlled Sunday’s championship game from start to finish.
Kylie Dobson of Oshawa led the offence with five goals, while Whitby’s Maddy Baxter added three.
Goaltender Sav Musto of Stouffville was named Player of the Game after stopping 15 of Laurier’s 18 shots.
Kate Ferguson, Delaney Keen and Teneike Gedge scored for the Golden Hawks, who entered the tournament as the sixth seed.
The Excalibur also collected several individual honours following the championship.
Maggie Cuddy was named OUA Most Valuable Defender and earned an all-star selection at defence. Baxter was recognized as an all-star midfielder, while Dobson received all-star honours as an attacker.
The celebrations continued after the final whistle, with Trent players marking their championship victory by jumping into the Otonabee River, continuing a tradition shared by other Excalibur teams following home championship wins.
The victory gives Trent its fifth OUA women’s lacrosse championship in program history, adding to titles won in 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2025.
