Plans for a new Campbellford Memorial Hospital have taken another step forward following a unanimous decision by Trent Hills Council.
At its October 13 meeting, council approved an Official Plan Amendment and zoning change for the proposed 48-acre Campus of Care property on County Road 30.
The decision designates the site as a Special Development Area, establishing a planning framework for a future hospital, long-term care home and additional health and community services.
Campbellford Memorial Hospital President and CEO Jeff Hohenkerk says the approval represents a significant milestone in the redevelopment process.
“Building a new hospital is an incredibly complex process, and there are many important steps along the way,” said Hohenkerk.
“This approval represents a significant milestone and brings us one step closer to realizing our vision of a modern, integrated Campus of Care that will strengthen healthcare delivery across our region for generations to come.”
The property was offered to the hospital in 2022 by local landowner and longtime supporter Jim Curle.
Since then, hospital officials have worked with municipal staff, planning consultants and project partners to move the proposal forward.
Hohenkerk thanked Trent Hills Council and municipal staff for their support, along with Curle for making the property available.
The hospital says the newly approved land-use policies and zoning permissions will help facilitate the next stages of planning.
However, the project still has several steps to complete before construction can begin.
Campbellford Memorial Hospital continues to work through the Ministry of Health’s capital planning process, while also conducting technical studies, site planning and community engagement.
“Every milestone like this is worth celebrating because each one moves us closer to the new hospital our communities need and deserve,” said Hohenkerk.
