A legacy blood drive held annually in honour and remembrance of the late Dr. Andrew Chan returns for a 11th year later this month.
Known and respected for dedication to his profession and compassion for his patients, Dr. Chan died after a December 2015 assault at the Peterborough home he shared with his partner Lynn Witteveen, who was seriously injured in the incident.
Started by Witteveen to recognize and carry on Dr. Chan’s legacy, the blood drive will be held October 16th and 17th at the newly-located Peterborough Blood Donor Clinic at Lansdowne Place. To join Dr. Chan’s team and book an appointment, visit www.blood.ca/pfl, or download the GiveBlood app and search for the team name of Dr. Chan Legacy Blood Drive.
Witteveen says while the tragedy that affected her life so deeply remains a painful memory, the blood drive she started brings her a measure of peace in terms of potential lives saved.
To those who have never donated blood before, Witteveen says you’re in very good hands.
Witteveen says the atmosphere during the blood drive is pretty special.
