Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board is reporting gains in literacy and some areas of mathematics in the latest EQAO results.
The results, released September 25, cover assessments completed during the 2025-26 school year.
PVNC Catholic says 76.7 per cent of Grade 3 students met or exceeded the provincial standard in reading, an increase of 5.5 percentage points from the previous year. Writing climbed 5.1 points to 66.2 per cent.
In Grade 3 mathematics, 65.3 per cent met or exceeded the provincial standard, up 2.4 percentage points year-over-year and matching the provincial result.
Grade 6 students recorded an 84.2 per cent success rate in reading and 86.2 per cent in writing.
The board also highlighted progress at its Priority Schools, where the percentage of Grade 6 students meeting the provincial math standard has increased by 21 percentage points since 2021-22.
Results were weaker in Grade 9 mathematics, where 51.8 per cent of PVNC Catholic students met or exceeded the provincial standard. Meanwhile, 78.2 per cent of first-time eligible students successfully completed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, matching the board’s result from the previous year.
“We are extremely proud of the growth our students, educators and administrators have achieved in literacy and mathematics this year,” said Stephen O’Sullivan, the board’s chief executive officer and chief education officer.
O’Sullivan said the board plans to continue supporting educators with training in instructional and assessment practices as it looks to build on the results.
