Charmaine Magumbe is a community organizer, cultural leader, and sustainability advocate based in Peterborough/Nogojiwanong. She recently completed a Master’s degree in Sustainability at Trent University (2024) and brings a wealth of experience from her career as an International Student Advisor at Conestoga College, Western University, and Fleming College.
A proud empty-nester and grandmother of four, Charmaine channels her passion for people into meaningful community action. She is a dedicated volunteer and organizer for local school events, Black History Month, Asian Heritage Month, and Indigenous Heritage Month celebrations.
Her community leadership includes founding the Peterborough/Nogojiwanong Community Garden, which advances food security, community connection, and hands-on education by increasing access to fresh produce. She also organized “For the Love of Community,” a fundraiser supporting Warming Room Community Ministries to raise homelessness awareness, and Solidarity Weekend, an initiative affirming inclusive, resilient, and diverse communities.
Charmaine believes in building bridges across cultures and creating spaces where everyone belongs. Through her work in sustainability, education, and grassroots organizing, she continues to strengthen the social and environmental fabric of her community.
